“For to us a child is born, to us a son is given…and his name shall be called…Prince of Peace” (Isaiah 9:6, ESV).
“And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus” (Philippians 4:7).
“Jesus: Our Prince of Peace”
I set out on glassy sea,
And life was very good for me,
But troubling winds began to blow,
Too strong for me to fight alone,
I rowed my boat with all my might,
Trying hard to to do it right,
But the harder I would try,
The worse the storm clouds in the sky,
I sought for ways to ease my fear,
To find some peace and hope and cheer,
But all those things turned out to be,
Chains and shackles binding me,
So in my hopeless state I cried,
Is there no place that I can hide,
Am I destined for a life,
Filled with shackles, pain, and strife?
Then I noticed there with me,
A host of others on the sea,
Some looked out so hopelessly,
At the mercy of the sea,
While others’ visage soft and warm,
Seemed unaffected by the storm,
So, I inquired of these men,
Perplexed by what I saw in them,
“How is it on this stormy sea,
Your chains fell off and you are free?
And how can you be unafraid,
On such a stormy sea today?”
“We met the Prince of Peace one day,
And life has never been the same.”
“But here you sit in stormy weather,
How can you say your life is better?”
“He never promised easy ways,
Smoother paths or brighter days,
But he promised he would send,
The perfect peace you find within,
And that is how our hearts can sing,
Whatever storms the sea may bring,
But you won’t find it on your own,
It comes from Christ and Christ alone.”
So in the midst of troubled sea,
I trusted in the Prince of Peace,
My chains fell off and I was free,
And perfect peace came over me,
And I have found it true in life,
The stormy sea may not subside,
But through the peace that Jesus brings,
My heart can find a song to sing,
Exceeding thought of mortal man,
A peace we cannot understand,
And never can a stormy sea,
Take this peace away from me.
